    The Red Well

The Red Well is the nom-de-plume of Jim Abel – originally from Whitehills, near Aberdeen, and currently based in Edinburgh.  An active member of the Fence Collective for a number of years, Jim cut his teeth with wailing guitar merchants, The Süpergun – his ice-white Gibson Les Paul (affectionately called ‘Charlene’) deafening the audience at the inaugural Fence Homegame Festival in 2004.  When bandmates went by the wayside, he decided to switch Charlene for an acoustic guitar, recording a half-hour of songs for Fence Records’ Picket Fence Set, under the moniker The Red Well.  This mini-album was a stand-out title in the series, proving The Red Well to be an accomplished song-writer, and prompting him to put together a new live band (which initially included a distortion-hungry Pictish Trail).
Amid Storms We Arrive, the debut full-length album, finds The Red Well dusting off Charlene, and settling into the band sound once more – accompanied by John Muir (drums), Barry Hughes (bass), and David Keay (keys, guitar).
