Hailing from Edinburgh, Withered Hand is the solo work of Mr Dan Willson (formerly of cult indie drop-outs Barrichello and Peanut) – an all round nice chap, and Homegame favourite for two years running.
His debut EP, Religious Songs (released through our friends at Bear Scotland) received glowing reviews upon its release in 2008 – and 2009 will witness an international victory lap, with the release of an EP recorded with King Creosote (You’re Not Alone out now on Fence/SL), and a full length debut album, produced by legendary lo-fi/metal producer, Mark Kramer (Low, Galaxie 500 … er, GWAR … etc), due in the autumn.
“Raging eccentric Withered Hand – a fantastically flaky,tiny-voiced Edinburgh strummer reminiscent of alt-folk loon Daniel Johnston – made for a somehow fitting finale. His set climaxed with the spectacle of a low-slung banjo being raked with a violin bow, Jimmy Page-style, in a kind of elemental fusion of folk, punk and hard rock.” The Scotsman (taken from a review of Homegame 2008).
