Well, got my microphone yesterday. It is a beast, about twice as big as I expected it to be. Gonna need a new mic stand, my old held-together-with-gaffer-tape one can only just handle it!
I have used condenser mics before, but this one has something that I've not previously come across.. when I tap the mic body, so it shakes a little in its cradle, the recorded audio cuts out intermittently. It's quite a cool effect, so I'm not unhappy, but I wonder if this means that there is a loose connection somewhere, or if this is what one would expect from a lightly nudged condenser. There is a similar (but far far shorter) effect when moving some of the switches, so I guess it is just the mic internals, the diaphragm vibrating a bit too much. Eh?
Looking forward to a proper play around later.. |
