Hello.
I have a track that I've been meaning to finish for a few years. Called Bending Bus. But what it really needs is a field recording of a bendy bus. There are some nice recordings on freesound.org (of non-bendy buses), which I've used in non-HS live sets, but they're not quite right for this track.
It's been in the back of my mind for years, to take something to record with when I visit London, but I always forget!
But, it occurs to me that, in the years that have passed since I first thought about this, there has probably been a large growth in the number of London Beefers who own phones that can record decent quality (if not very good quality) audio.
SO.. what I'm asking is, if any Beefers have such technology, and they find themselves, sepcifically, on a bendy bus, could they please make a recording for me? The recording can have chatter and noise, naturally.. it would be nice to get the "ambience" of a London bus.. and what I would really like is the sound of the doors opening or shutting.. ie. if someone could start recording during their journey, and then be at or near the door, still recording, before it opens. Them bendy buses got some good door noises!
In further moon-on-a-stick news, it would also be really great if anyone was able to record the sound of a bus pulling-in/pulling out from a bus stop on a rainy day.. could really do with that wheels-slooshing-through-puddles sound. Can always Frankenstein this from non-verité sources however!
Hey, you don't ask, you don't get..
I guess that if anyone was able to help me with this, I would be massively indebted to them, to some unspecifiable value, and therefore ripe for exploitation. In some unspecifiable way. But, for what it's (not) worth, you would definitely get to be credited with the co-creation of what is, by any measure, the strangest Hardsparrow track in existence, scheduled to feature on the album Meerschaum Tram, if I ever get it finished.
They do still have bendy buses in London, right? Right??

Yes, we still have bendy buses in London.
Will be up town next week so will try to remember to hop on a bendy for you
If anyone does it sooner, please make sure you post on the Beef so I dont bother taking an unneccesary bus journey and using precious oyster card credit... |

I like pretending that this request has been posted by Boris himself, with all the HS bits changed to Boris Johnson.*

But the bendy bus is the "free bus"!
Thanks Dubster! There's really no pressing time issue on this though.. I just thought I'd mention it, while it's in my head.. and if, at some point in the future, someone happens to be on a bendy bus, and remembers this thread and presses record on their phone, then that would be great.
But I don't really expect anyone go taking unnecessary bus journeys on my account!
If you can get a recording, without going out of your way, then that would be awesome, thank you. I will be astounded if anyone else manages to do so before next week. Unless it's Ade Brown, obviously. |

I was thinking about that when I chose the pic. "But he's a twat, " I thought. "POST IT POST IT POST IT!" went the other thought. |

Ade's probably got a better phone than me, so would probably get a far superior recording Office Xmas party next week, JY gig the week after so will undoubtedly be jumping on a bus at some point in the near future so dont worry about unnecessary journeys. Happy to oblige Paul...(feel I owe you for almost touching your severed finger at Haarfest!) |

They abolished our Bendy buses.
Because of fudgywudgy who voted for Boris who never use them but cannot get their 4x4s around Westminster.
I will see what I can do with the remaining. |

Apparently the 207 goes through Shepherds Bush - I am going to Westfield shopping centre at Shepherds Bush on Friday so I MAY JUST SEE A 207 on its final journey!!! If I do, I will hop on for a stop or two and do some recording for you.... |
