Here’s some more info from The Pictish Trail …

Now that our first ever Away Game event has SOLD OUT, we can know let you know a few details!

Why Eigg? Well, we realised the reason a lot of folk make the pilgrimage to Fife for Home Game is because Anstruther is a pretty sea-side tourist town, and it feels like a bit of a holiday. With Away Game, we fancied putting on an event where it feels like we’re ALL on holiday! Our pal Sarah invited us over to Eigg a few years ago, for a birthday party – and we’ve been hatching plans to put on an event over there ever since. It is such an intensely beautiful island – and its population (about 70 people) are all party animals. I’ve been hanging out with them all this past week, and they’re extremely excited about meeting every single one of yiz!

Silver Columns are gonna be hosting the first night of Away Game entertainment, with the music taking a definite dance slant. We’ll be playing a live set in the middle of the evening – bringing up all our lights, our smoke machine and (oh yes) our disco ball – getting the crowd all buzzed up for a weekend of amazing music. We are literally going to force you to dance! YES! DANCE!

Fence Collective acolyte, and Domino Records alumni Jon Hopkins will be headlining the Friday – with a live set of his joyously melodic, pulsating and exhilarating electronica. Having toured his amazing album INSIDES around the world this past year, we’re thrilled to have Jon join us. He’s a true Home Game legend, and we know that he’ll go down a storm at Away Game.

Moshi Moshi DJ’s and OnTheFly (DJ ) will keep us all moving until very much later in the night, going into early morning, when there’ll be a rare live performance from recent Kompakt signings, WALLS. Their blissed-out, mind-warping self-titled debut is one of my favourite albums of this year – and will make the perfect soundtrack to the sun coming up over the campfire.

The Saturday afternoon will start off very much on a softly-softly note. We’re bringing over our friendly local Fife bakery – Fisher & Donaldson - to cure hangovers with cups of soup, stovies and spinach & ricotta rolls. A nutritious selection of singer-songwriters will also be on display, with solo performances from Darren Hayman (he of Hefner fame), Gordon McIntyre (he of Ballboy fame) … and the debut of a new project from Malcolm Middleton (he of Arab Strap and, er, Malcolm Middleton fame!). His new project is going under the working title of Human Don’t Be Angry, but he tells me that there’s every chance it’ll be called something else come September! Whatever name he chooses to go with, we’re massive fans of Malc’s music – and we’re properly honoured that he’s chosen Away Game to showcase his new material.

Johnny Flynn, Sweet Baboo, and Rozi Plain will keep the singer-songwriter quotient up – and i’m going to attempt to perform a Pictish Trail set consisting of all 50 songs from my forthcoming album IN ROOMS. Don’t worry, they’re all 30 seconds long.

My good pal, and Fence Records co-hort, King Creosote, will steadily make things louder again – performing with a full Fence Collective band. He’s the heart and soul of the label – and is performing at the exact time of the day when you’ve had a few drinks in you, and you’re at your most emotionally vulnerable. You’ll be crying and then laughing and then cheering! Braw!

And then, when you’re all warmed up, we’ll get one step louder … we’ve got the incredible British Sea Power performing. These guys are no strangers to gigs off the beaten track – so we know we’re in capable hands. So excited to have them up – and really looking forward to seeing them perform their stomping proto-glam pop anthems, on a stage adorned with bracken and woodland shrubbery! With just the right amount of whisky down us, we’ll all be ready for Daimhs high energy reels and jigs – bringing a true, fiery, West Highland flavour to the proceedings. The night will end with a set from The Massacre Cave, Eigg’s very own metal band – who will grab everyone by the throat, and throttle every last ounce of energy out of you!

I’m really chuffed with this line-up … and there’s so much more happening over the weekend. It’s definitely the strongest roster we’ve had for any Fence event – and I can’t wait to see you all up here!”.
