    Some Homegame Warm-Ups …

It’s not long til our annual festival, Homegame, kicks off – and we’re all getting a bit excited. Some of you have been getting excited too. I’ve been receiving written threats from folk who have been unable to get tickets … and so in order to placate them, and to save my face from being smashed in, we’d like to announce a few warm-up shows.

After a short winter tour with OLO Worms, our Bristolian-fixation continues with a short batch of dates featuring the talons of Rozi Plain, François & The Atlas Mountains, and special guests Uncle Jelly Fish.

Rozi has been hard at work over the past few months, recording her second album – with her brother, Romanhead. I was lucky enough to have a sneak-peek of the songs, the other week … and they are sounding phenomenal. Rozi has taken on a Beefheart-esque persona, however … and keeps all of her band trapped in a cage, feeding them loose berries and tripe. She has warned them that if any player fluffs a note during her Homegame set, she will remove one of their limbs with a sharp spoon. Expect a frantically tight set at these warm-up shows, then.

François has done the clever thing, and has kept all his limbs hidden in a drawer somewhere in France. For these warm-up shows, he is going to re-attach his limbs … and attach other musicians limbs to his body, Transformer-style.   François’ ever-changing backing band, The Atlas Mountains, will comprise of members from the French band Uncle Jelly Fish (who also played on his album, Plaine Inondable), and Rozi Plain. Those of you who caught François’ tour last November/December might remember his crazed percussionist, Amaury? Well, Uncle Jelly Fish is Amaury’s band … and they are all as nuts as him. Apparently. Should be incredible, then!

Tickets for this show have long since sold-out, but if you’re lucky enough to have one, make sure you get to the venue early!
