The latest release on Fence Records is an LP by New York duo The Shivers, entitled More.
We’re delighted to let you know that More has just been named Album Of The Week on Tom Morton’s BBC Radio Scotland show. Alan Morrison from The Herald joined Tom on his show yesterday to discuss the album – which you can listen to here (about 52 minutes in, followed by a play of the track ‘Love Is In The Air’). Alan also wrote about the album on the BBC website:
| “ALBUM OF THE WEEK – THE SHIVERS, MORE
There are a few bands out there called The Shivers. This one is an American/Australian duo based in New York City with four hard-to-find lo-fi albums in their past and this fifth one coming out in the UK courtesy of their recent signing to Fence Records in Anstruther (home of King Creosote). More brazenly walks the fine line between being thrillingly diverse and musically mixed-up. No two tracks sound they same, as the band distills some of the best bits of underground and mainstream American music into one startling sound: a gruff Springsteen vocal set to a rousing soul keyboard, a Velvet Underground stroll quickly followed by a dynamic burst through the NYC indie-guitar territory claimed by The Strokes, the dream team of Bob Dylan singing a Leonard Cohen song… It’s the sheer unpredictability of what’s coming next that gives More its energy – that and the fact that, no matter which genre box you want to drop each song into, they’re all brilliantly written and performed from the heart.” |
What are you waiting for? Go and get yourself a copy of the album right now. Each copy of the LP comes packed with a CD inside, containing all the tracks.

Still need a bit o’ convincing? Well, The Pictish Trail has put together a three-part blog about how he met the band, and how the new album came about – which you can read in the BandStand section of our website, here. It’s quite gushy.
We’ll have some special news about The Shivers later this week, too – so keep your eyes peeled to the Fence website!

PRESS IS MORE: SOME PRAISE FOR THE SHIVERS …
“A perfect introduction to their idiosyncratic and gentle form of genius. Delivers the requisite shivers down the spine. Quietly inspired.” FOUR STARS ****, THE LIST
“Somehow, it’s taken five self-released albums for someone in the UK to prick up their ears and sign New York’s The Shivers. Johnny Lynch (aka The Pictish Trail, aka Fence’s high heid yin) is the good soul responsible for terminating the stalemate, and this sixth full-length is a perfect profile-raiser that should have newcomers raiding the preceding pentad hungrily.” FOUR STARS ****, THE SKINNY
“This record is full of quality moments. Like the brilliant “Love Is In The Air” which has a snappy structure and great catchy lyrics. Also a favourite is the striking “Silent Weapons For Quiet Wars” which is a delicious slice of The Shivers pizza pie. An album that the E Street band would be proud of. Let The Shivers take you down…” NORMAN RECORDS
