The Unthanks added to Homegame Line-Up!

We’re fast approaching our Homegame Festival Weekend (12th-14th March), and we can’t contain our excitement any longer.

The Homegame is Fence Records’ annual three-day festival, held in our hometown of Anstruther, in Fife – where we showcase acts from the Fence Collective, alongside a bevvy of special guests, in a variety of intimate venues scattered around the town.

The Unthanks are the latest addition to our stellar line-up … and we’re so chuffed to have them on board!

Northumbria sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank are unsentimental young storytellers outside of time, forging links between folk worlds old, new and other. Staunch traditionalism and sonic adventure ought to be polar opposites, yet they are easy bedfellows in the gentle hands of The Unthanks; the British counterpart to the leftfield folk leanings of Sufjan Stevens, Bonnie Prince Billy, Tom Waits and Fleet Foxes, nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and present in The Best Albums of the Decade (worldwide, all genres) in The Guardian and Uncut. Described by Britain’s leading music journalist Paul Morley as “absolutely exquisite”, new album Here’s The Tender Coming employs a kaleidoscope of unlikely instruments and arrangements.

The Unthanks are just one of many many acts performing over the weekend – also appearing are Four Tet, RememberRemember, King Creosote, James Yorkston, Silver Columns, Django Django, FOUND, Adem, Rozi Plain, Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai – DJ set), Emma Pollock, The Bluebells, The Pictish Trail, Adrian Crowley, Benni Hemm Hemm, John Maclean (Beta Band / Aliens – DJ set), Kid Canaveral, Spare Snare, Jon Hopkins, Pantha Du Prince … and tons more.

The full line-up – with stage times – is revealed, in all it’s glory, on the Fence messageboard here.

Tickets for Homegame sold out within a couple of hours of going on the site – but if you missed out, you might be interested in attending our free pub shows.  King Creosote has put together these shows – and they will be taking place in the Smugglers Inn and The Ship Tavern, in Anstruther, from 10pm each night – open to the public.   There’s a damned fine decent roster lined-up, so if you missed out on getting a ticket, you should come along!
