Chemical Campfires is Barbarossa‘s first full-length effort – and it’s a very honest affair, showcasing his stunning vocal range and knack for melody. Ten songs that twist the verse-chorus-verse endgame into something wild, something electronic, something unexpected. Produced by Simon Lord (Simian, GARDEN), the album fuses together modern recording techniques with acoustic instrumentation. James’ voice surrounds and rebounds throughout, whilst echoes, samples and electronic beats murmur and bubble within.
The immediacy of the songs result in an album that is ostensibly, and unashamedly, pop, and yet remains a listening experience that rewards repeated plays. As the listener familiarises with the lyrics and melodies, the many textured layers begin to sprout, and bristle against the ear like a well-trimmed fiery ginger beard.
